We’re more than wine
(But the wine’s really good)
We focus on the wine, but we know you might want to explore other aspects of our region—and we understand why. It’s pretty fantastic. From Daylesford, the spa capital of Australia, to iconic Hanging Rock, and shopping along Kyneton’s historic Piper Street, there’s a whole lot more than wine on offer here.
Fantastic Food
First and foremost, you’re going to need sustenance. And, oh, can we provide that.
We know finding good coffee can be a concern when you leave the city. You don’t need to worry here. The Fox in the Chamber in Woodend, Verdure in Romsey, The Town Roaster in Kyneton and Cliffy’s in Daylesford are some of our favourites, but you won’t find options lacking. Trust us.
If it’s picnic supplies you’re after, a great destination is Piper Street, where you’ll find an array of shops. Don’t miss out on Piper St Food Co, where you’ll find the best pork pies outside of the UK and exquisite terrines.
If you’re looking to dine-in, Kuzu in Woodend offers sublime Japanese food (bookings essential), and you’ll find two excellent pubs in Trentham—The Pig and Whistle and The Cosmopolitan. Both offer delicious food and have spacious gardens for sunny days.
Daylesford has everything you’ll need from picnic supplies to a delectable 4-course meal at the renowned Lake House (bookings essential). And if you’re exploring the Laneways of Lancefield, don’t miss out on the Lancefield Hotel.
Spa Centre of Australia
It’s a weighty title, but we’re okay with that. You’ll find Australia’s oldest mineral spring bathhouse at Hepburn Springs Bathhouse, which draws its waters from the surrounding Hepburn Mineral Springs Reserve. Bathe in the relaxation pool, spa pool or salt therapy pool and enjoy the spa couches and aroma steam room.
If you’re looking for the utmost in luxury, you’ll want to book in at The Lake House. With everything from grounding clay rituals to invigorating facials, you’ll even find private treetop bathing tubs here.
For something a little bit different, try Shizuku Ryokan. Shizuku offers a traditional Japanese spa experience, including shiatsu massage, geisha facials and reflexology. For the full experience, book accommodation here as well—and make sure the restaurant is serving dinner during your stay. You don’t want to miss out on that.
The great outdoors
It can be easy to forget that you’re only an hour from Melbourne as you walk along the Macedon Regional Walking Trail. An 18.8km loop taking in Memorial Cross, Camel’s Hump, Sanatorium Lake and Mt Towrong, your stress will melt away surrounded by views of stunning countryside.
If 18km sounds a bit too adventurous for you, you might prefer the short but invigorating walk up the iconic Hanging Rock. Or perhaps an easy stroll around Daylesford Lake. The options are endless (nearly).
Mountain bike enthusiasts will love the trails in Wombat State Forest, which you’ll find in Ashbourne, 5 km west of Woodend. Road cyclists may prefer Ashbourne Rd itself, which winds its way slowly upwards towards Trentham East. Be warned it’s narrow and windy and you’ll need to watch out for wildlife as well as cars
