2020 Vintage Report

A very dry winter/spring period followed by intense heat in December brought on poor flowering and fruit set, which led to smaller bunches, hen & chicken and lower crops in general. Windy conditions also caused havoc with this.

Fortunately the massive bushfires didn’t affect the Macedon Ranges but commiserations to the wineries in the North-East and Gippsland areas.

January saw wetter conditions and cooler temperatures.

Autumn saw slightly cooler conditions which lead to very good ripening conditions albeit with reduced yields. This did however result in concentrated colours and flavour in the grapes.

Chardonnay appeared to be the worst hit with decreases on average of 60-80%. Pinot Noir was around 30-50% with many other varietals similarly affected.
